Job Description

Job Summary:                                                                                                                                                             Under the direction of the Supervisor and Lead Hand, the Encapsulation Operator is responsible for all activities related to the encapsulation of the two-piece hard shell capsule product as per Master Ingredient List (MIL) document by adhering to the Work Procedures (WPs), the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) that are in effect to ensure the quality and quantity of product produced.

Job Description & Responsibilities:
• Effectively operate encapsulation machines individually as well as within a team environment
• Read and follow the work order requirement prior to production
• Clean and setup encapsulation machines, accessories and rooms within the standard time frame according to SOP requirement.
• Ensure proper machine startup check and complete the paperwork against MIL before starting production
• Monitor the encapsulation machine operation and perform in-process capsule weight check, making adjustments as necessary
• Match all labels with the work order
• Perform trouble shooting during production
• Ensure product meets quality control requirements and standards and report non-compliance events to Lead Hand or Supervisor in a timely manor
• Attain composite samples for Quality Control (QC) testing
• Attain Acceptable Quality Levels (AQLs) samples for Quality Assurance (QA) if needed
• Label containers of finished product
• Perform general maintenance of machinery
• Take good care of machine parts and tooling to avoid damage
• Accurately complete all paperwork
• Perform proper line clearance between products
• Maintain a steady work pace
• Ensure proper shift turnover
• Ensure good housekeeping around working area
• Ensure efficient clean up time and in accord with GMP standards
• Cover coworkers’ breaks on other machines if requested/required
• Respect authority and company policy by being punctual, having good attendance, keeping break schedules, making good use of work time and following directions well
• Wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as required and follow Safe work practices on shop floor at all times
• Work in other departments or perform other duties as required
• Follow and adhere to all given instructions including work procedures, SOPs and GMP
• Strictly adhere and observe all safety policies as outlined in the company policies and training sessions
• Regular, predictable attendance is required.

  • Required skills and experience:
    • Mechanically inclined for accurate set up of equipment, troubleshooting and machinery maintenance as well as a good working knowledge of equipment operations
    • Able to speak and read English fluently in order to understand the requirements and goals of the department and follow written and verbal instructions accurately
    • Physically fit in order to lift up to 55 pounds , to stand for extended periods of time and bend, crouch and kneel
    • Demonstrate cooperative, positive and willing attitude, communication, and behavior with co-workers and management
    • Take initiative in reaching department goals and meeting production expectations as well as demonstrate values for productivity and quality
    • Organized in work habits
    • Safety conscious
    • Attention to detail and accuracy with numbers
    • Knowledge of Tableting and GMP an asset
    • Completion of High School and post-secondary Pharmaceutical Manufacturing diploma an asset
