This scholarship will be awarded once yearly to a sibling of a pediatric cancer patient. Life changes forever in the moment a child is diagnosed, and cancer affects the entire family. Living arrangements and schedules need to be restructured, time together is limited, finances are often strained, and each member of the family is dealing with their own pain. Siblings are uniquely affected, and often suffer long lasting effects of their experience.
Meagan Mullanix was a light in this world. She was smart, funny, giving, compassionate, athletic, and simultaneously awkward and grace-filled.
She loved so many things, but none more than her family. While we considered other options, we decided that she would be most honored by being able to help the sibling of a childhood cancer patient. Meagan worried about her sister, Kacey, wished that her life hadn’t been changed so abruptly by her illness, and felt frustration over Kacey’s struggle to pay her college loans. They shared an incredible bond and were fiercely protective of each other.
The Meagan Mullanix Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to one individual each year in the amount of $800. Applicants between the ages of 17 to 25 years of age who are the sibling of a pediatric cancer patient in Washington State are encouraged to apply. Applications will be accepted yearly from January 1st to April 1st. After the deadline has passed, a selection committee will review the submissions, and a decision will be rendered by May 1st.
Application deadline: April 1, 2019
