About the Class

Healthcare Careers is the class for you if you are considering a career in the vast healthcare field, but are unsure of what exactly you want to do.  In this class you will learn about the many different career paths in the Healthcare Industry for preparation to pursue a medical career.  Some of these include Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Terminology, a blend of Clinical and Office skills, taking a patient’s vital signs and more. There is a balance of online instruction, lecture, and “hands-on” project based learning. Students are encouraged to spend internship time with a few different clinical experiences to get a feel for different specialty areas.

This class can be taken as a precursor to Medical Assisting, Nurses Assistant and Veterinary Assisting Classes.  Many students are completing the Health and Biology prerequisites for those classes while taking Healthcare Careers. Prospective students are those who truly enjoy helping others, and working with people.  Being responsible and having good attendance are crucial to be successful in this field.

Meet the instructor

My name is Sheri Phillips and I have over 35 years of experience in the Healthcare field. I graduated from Edmonds Community College as a Certified Medical Assistant. My career pathways also gave me experience as an X-ray Tech, Billing Specialist, and Cast Technician. I spent 10 years as a Medical Office Manager.

I taught the Medical Assisting class at Sno-Isle TECH for several years, and recently, after returning from a leave, turned to teaching Healthcare Careers. My employment experience in many areas of the healthcare pathway give me insight and desire to teach this class.

If you are interested in a career in the medical field, this is the place to start! Please watch the video of students practicing skills, working and training to advance into health care services. I look forward to meeting you at a future Open House or school tour.
